laurence_boisson-smallLaurence Boisson de Chazournes is Professor of International Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Geneva. She has published widely on topics of international law and international organizations, with a particular focus on international environmental matters and water resources law. In 2009, she has been awarded the Elizabeth Haub Prize for Environmental Law for her contributions to this field. She is the director of the Platform for International Water Law; a platform of water law experts housed by the University of Geneva.

As a practitioner Professor Boisson de Chazournes has worked on numerous occasions as expert counsel to international organizations and States. She has acted as chairperson and member of arbitration panels and she has pleaded before the International Court of Justice. She is a member of the board of directors and Professor at the Geneva Master in International Dispute Settlement.

Retained by Colorado voters after a two-year provisional term for ten year terms commencing January 1999 and January 2009. Practiced law for 25 years, with emphasis on water, environment, land use, and transportation. Former senior partner, Hobbs, Trout & Raley P.C.; Partner, Davis, Graham & Stubbs; First Assistant Attorney General, Natural Resources Section, State of Colorado; Enforcement Attorney, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Law Clerk for Judge William E. Doyle, U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Vice-President, Colorado Foundation for Water Education; Co-Convenor, Dividing the Waters (Western Water Judges Project). Author of In Praise of Fair Colorado, The Practice of Poetry, History and Judging (Bradford Publishing Co. 2004); Colorado Mother of Rivers, Water Poems (Colorado Foundation for Water Education 2005), and The Public's Water Resource, Articles on Water Law, History, and Culture (Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc. 2007). Hilhorst_smallDorothea Hilhorst is professor of Humanitarian Aid and Reconstruction at Wageningen University. Her research concerns the aidnography of humanitarian crises and fragile states. Her publications focus on the everyday practices of humanitarian aid, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, reconstruction and peace building. She coordinates research programmes with studies in Angola, DRC, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Sudan, Mozambique and Uganda. She has published widely in these fields. Thea Hilhorst completed her dissertation in 2000 on a Philippine development NGO and its surrounding networks, clientele and donors (The Real World of NGOs. Discourses, Diversity and Development, Zedbooks).

 

 

 


Amaya-Castro_smallJuan M. Amaya-Castro is a Senior Researcher with the Faculty of Law and with the Migration and Diversity Centre of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Between 2004 and 2009 he was assistant professor and Deputy Head of the Department of International Law and Human Rights at the United Nations mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. Before that he worked at the Erasmus University Law School and he was also a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School. His current research focuses on international migration governance, but he is also involved in projects related to international legal philosophy, critical legal studies, as well as international adjudication and the law of international organizations. He is a visiting professor at the University for Peace, where he teaches on the law of international organizations as well as on international and transnational adjudication. Recently, he succesfully defended his Doctoral Dissertation entitled: Human Rights and the Critiques of the Public-Private Distinction. He is a member of the Board of Consultants of SUR – Revista Internacional de Derechos Humanos, and also a member of the Editorial Board of the Inter-American & European Human Rights Journal.
