Water Governance Centre starts in the Netherlands

The Dutch Unie van Waterschappen (Union of Water Boards) has taken the initiative to start a Water Governance Centre. Supported by the Government of the Netherlands (Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment; Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation; and Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the centre aims to make better use of the Dutch knowledge on water governance, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Simultaneously, societal changes, greater complexity of problems, competing interests and climatic change call for strengthening water governance. The centre, which opened on 20 May 2011, will act as a network organization.

 
Freshwater and International Law: The Multiple Challenges

7–9 July 2011, Genève • Conference «Freshwater and International Law: The Multiple Challenges», organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva (Platform for International Water Law). It will look at the interaction between law, science and policy with respect to managing international freshwater resources.

International Conference on Groundwater in Fractured Rocks

21–24 May 2011, Prague • The GwFR’2012 conference is a follow-up to the conference GFR2003 – International Conference on Groundwater in Fractured Rock – held in Prague in 2003, organized by Jiri Krasny et al. The direct incentive was the meeting of the IAH Commission on Hydrogeology of Hard Rocks during the 38th international congress of IAH in Kraków, Poland. It was concluded that, so many years after GFR2003, it would be needed to organize again the conference on groundwater in fractured rocks.

 
First Global Water Footprint Standard Training Course

10–12 May 2011, Amsterdam • Registration is now open for the first Global Water Footprint Standard Training Course that will take place in Amsterdam. After concluding this course, participants will receive the Certificate of the Global Water Footprint Standard Training Course, which provides proof in the market that the individual holding the certificate is acquainted with the global water footprint standard. The certificate is stamped by the Water Footprint Network.

 
The Water Footprint Assessment Manual sets the standard

«The Water Footprint Assessment Manual: Setting the Global Standard» has just been published. The first Global Water Footprint Standard, a scientifically credible methodology that will make all water footprints comparable, clearly demonstrates how individuals, companies and nations can quantify their contribution to water use conflicts and environmental degradation in river basins around the world.

 
10th hydrological PhD thesis added: Ruud Bartholomeus

The PhD thesis (2010) of Ruud Bartholomeus, «Climate-proof and process-based relationships between water, oxygen and vegetation», has been added to the PhD theses section.
